Well its been a while since i posted a new blog so i thought it was about time . The Skins just wrapped up thier first mini camp and first set of OTA's . From what i can tell, it seems as if Zorn has this thing figured out . I myself like the new coach and his new ways of running things . I think he wants his team to work hard but have fun while they do it , who in thier right mind doesn't want that . I'm not saying the Redskins are headed to the Super Bowl but in turn i do not expect a big drop off from last season . Now for other subjects . Fred Davis ... the boy overslept and missed the last day of minicamp. Ok, as details came out, he was bunked with someone who could not stay quiet, so he went and got another room. No one woke him up and he had the flu , this is not a good excuse but im willing to give him a pass on this one , lets just hope he doesn't do it again .

Malcom Kelly
Redskins took the group and watched Kelly work out yesterday . I heard he had a pretty good workout . Now a lot of us dont like the idea of Kelly being drafted by the Redskins in round 1 of the draft . I am not to wild about it myself , but then i start asking myself why not ? Well there are questions about his knees ? But then again our medical staff would check that out way before he was drafted. Second thing is his 40 time is slow , ran in the 4.6 range . I was hung up on this stat for a long time , really until lastnight when i was talking with a friend did i see the light. 40 times do not mean a thing in the NFL . They run this dash , in shorts and track shoes. I want to see them run on the field with 25 pounds of padding on and someone coming after them . I seen the errors of my ways . I mean Jerry Rice , A. Boldin both ran in the 4.7 range and Emmitt Smith running 4.8, i dont know about you but these guys are not busts, then you have a Wr run a 4.3 in the dash , someone like Matt Jones, that right .. you say who is that . My point is , we put way to much stock in the combine. I believe you look at the gametape and see if this person shows up on the field to play . In closing i believe Kelly does show up . Quick stat , In college Kelly dropped a total of 3 passes .. thats pretty good people .

Random Thoughts
Well we are now hours away from the draft and boy has the rumors started to fly now . Lets recap on some of them . We have Chad Johnson that it is said the Redskins offered a 1st and a 3rd round pick for Johnson with the 3rd turning into a 1st if Johnson and the Skins meet certain performance settings. The Bengals have since turned this offer down and said Johnson will not be traded. So thats one move they wanted to do. The other 2 moves are just like the Johnson offer a 1st and 3rd to the Lions for Wr Roy Williams and Cards Wr A. Boldin , both teams have rejected these offers. I still believe after June 1st , Johnson will be traded so i think the redskins should wait until then and use the 2009 draft picks , the owner has no problems doing this and it seems he does not want to take no as a answer . The newest rumor i want to mention is Jason Taylor of the Dolphins on the trade table now for a late 1st rounder. i myself am on the fence about this . there is two sides to this , on the one side Taylor is one of the best DE in the league . The Con he is getting old and the skins may be renting him for 2 years . In closing i still believe it would be smart to hold onto the pick and try to trade down and pick up more picks . We shall see how it plays out

Draft Day Coming Up
Draft day is almost here for all of us Redskins fans ? but the main question is who are the skins going to take ? I have seen all the mock drafts with a lot of them having us take a different player in each of them. I dont know about you guys but here is my hopes for this years draft . I hope we trade out of the first and pick up a extra 2nd and 3rd rounder. With these picks i would hope for a DE . i would take Campbell from Miami , i know he didnt run a good time in the 40 yard dash but lets all keep in mind the man was about 20 pounds over his playing weight , which is no excuse since he knew the combine was coming up but regardless of that , if he takes that weight off he should get that speed back that he was known for. With the other 2nd round pick i would like to see them take WR Malcom Kelly from OU. Again i know this is a guy who ran a slow 40 time at the combine but all you have to do is look at tapes of his games , and you will see this guy could be a monster, he attacks the ball at the highest point , something that S. Moss does very well , Kelly is 6'4 a big Wr that we need badly and a good runblocker which is a plus. To add to the speed issue , let me remind you that A.Boldin ran in the 4.7s in the 40 . shows you that speed on a track does not equal game speed. We need a big Wr and from the sounds of it , it will not be Chad Johnson , so it looks like for the first time in a while we will need to build in the draft and dismiss the wait of a SPLASH this year because it does not seem to be coming folks. Instead lets look forward to good draft.

Drafting a Safety ?
This is a subject that has been on my mind since the death of Sean Taylor . Should the Redskins draft a safety in this saturdays draft ? should they use thier 1st round pick to take a safety? the answer to that question has been... No. Why ? People say because the person taken would have a amazing amount of pressure and be compared to the late Sean Taylor all the time , with the pick being the 21st pick, which of course was Taylors number, and the Saftey that would most likely be picked would be Kenny Phillips from Miami, which of course is the same team that Sean Taylor came from. Now i agree that they should not use the 21st pick on a safety but only because i do not believe there is a safety in the draft worth the 21st pick. i do believe that a safety needs to be drafted at some point, as of now the Redskins have 3 safeties . Laron Landry, Reed Doughty, Vernon Fox. Landry will be a good player in the league for years.. Doughty is still learning and we need to see if he is the long term answer at safety ,and Fox is more of a special teams player, so a safety is needed . A lot of people say "well it would not be fair to draft a Safety at 21 because of the pressure that would be there" . I disagree to a point . No one in the near future will be given a fair judgement by the fans or the media regardless if its a rookie or a veteran . A example of this ? ... If Laron misses a play it will be said.. If Sean was there that would not happen... If Doughty gets beat deep.." Well if Sean was there that would not have happen" . Sean is and will always be missed, but the team will have to draft for need.. No one can expect to be the next Sean Taylor , he was one of a kind . In closing, regardless if its draft or a vet signing , anyone who is a safety for the Washington Redskins will be compared to Sean Taylor for years to come ... although there will never be another.

Thoughts on Chad
Well its been weeks that the talk of Chad Johnson to the Redskins have started. i thought that i may weigh in on this topic since i have seen so many people on the fence about this topic. I myself would welcome Chad Johnson to the Redskins. Yes he may have a loud mouth but fellow Skins fans, we have people on our team that are very outspoken. Facts are Johnson has never gotten in trouble with the law, the man shows up every Sunday and puts it on the line. May i draw your minds to the Bengals vs Bills when Johnson went for the ball and ended up taking a ride to the ER for his troubles. I mean can the Bengals blame him for everything ? i believe if they had any kind of defense , they would be a playoff team. Now with all that said i hope the Skins would not overpay in draft picks to get Johnson.. i think a first and third is fair. We know Johnson would get a new contract and we know the Skins would over pay there. But honestly when dont they. They made 8 million in cap room and we know they will use it .While i know the Johnson move is not a popular choice i find it to be almost needed. almost every team in the east has upgraded or stayed the same this offseason with Dallas wanting to make moves . We need to do something to pull above these teams . Moss is great , but i feel we lack a true number one WR. Johnson could be the answer ...
